A short drive today (3 hours) but it was beautiful. I got away about 8am and it was a cold morning with light cloud than was dissipating as the sun warmed up. The only town for 180kms was Orbost and it was national park and forest pretty much the entire way. There was very little traffic which was nice and the roads were good although I noticed they deteriorated as soon as I crossed the border. I love the Driver Reviver signs they have in Victoria – ‘Micro Naps Kill’ and the next one will be ‘Take a Power Nap’ – I’m assuming they mean pull over and take the power nap. But my favourite is ‘Dozy Drivers Die’, it’s so subtle.
There were so many photo opportunities, that I was nearly in tears because I couldn’t pull over. I got that desperate that I stopped at a rest stop, just to get out and take some photos of the trees….well that’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it.
I’m staying in a very lovely villa at the Eastern Beach Caravan Park…..I would highly recommend it if you are coming here. The camp kitchen is great and they even have a tv room. Each site has matting on the ground so you pull your van up or pitch your tent next to the matting and you have something non-grassy/non-dirt to walk on.
It was nice to get in around lunchtime and have the entire afternoon to meander and catch up. I was intending to walk into town and then do the Foreshore Walk but the clouds were looking like it was going to team so I ended up driving into town and walking along the waterfront, which didn’t take as long as I expected. Drove to the lookout to actually see The Entrance and stopped by the river then came back. Watched a DVD and noticed that the bit of creek that I front onto had barely a ripple on it and that the breeze had dropped and being 5ish, that the sun would set soon, so I raced back into town for some photos and I wasn’t disappointed.
Tomorrow I’m off to Phillip Island, which depending on the roads and the weather could be anywhere between 4 and 5 hours but I’m going to see the penguins waddle up the beach tomorrow night…woohoo.
Hi Lindy, sounds like you are making the most of everything, the only draw back is the weather is colder, (training for living in Adelaide). Are you staying in accommodation all the way or have you taken your tent . Hope you have something warm for Digby he,s been a tropical dog for so long.Take care driving, NSW drove me mad with all the 50 zone,s so far out from the centre of towns and I encountered lots of road works on my trip back from Echuca in April. and yes the driver signs are funny. Any way take care continue having fun its good you are spending time exploring Oz. Yvonne & Digby xxxx
