November 2013

December 9, 2013

I can’t believe it’s already the 9th of December and I haven’t started November’s blog.  I’m starting to think that doing this every two months might be a good idea but then there’s always the likelihood that if I go down that path, it will never happen.  And you will all be so much poorer for not being updated on the goings on in Lindyland.

So, November was quieter than October but proving to be busier than December, strangely enough, but I reconnected with lots of people this month, starting with my nieces 21st, caught up with lots of family that I haven’t seen since being back and I finally managed to catch up with some of the old gang at Kay and David.  It was sooo good to see everyone.

I’ve been getting back in to riding my pushie since being back as there aren’t too many hills to annoy me and I’ve looked at some of the groups that ride but they all do 40+ kms and state that their average speed is 25-30kms/hour.  I can do that as a top speed but my average is more like 19-20 kms/hour.  So I was very pleased to find that Salisbury Council have recently started a riding program for us peeps that are building up our cycling skills and don’t believe that everyone should be wearing lycra….because there are definitely some that shouldn’t….and I figure the world does not need to and isn’t ready to see this arse in lycra.  Bad enough in exercise pants but definitely not lycra.  While I’ve only been on one ride so far, it was a good ride along the Little Para Trail and by the time we got back to the starting place for a coffee it was just over an hour.

While on the riding front, I took part in first charity ride – Gear Up Girl – for breast cancer.  There were 3 ride options – 15km river circuit, 40kms beach circuit and 50kms hills – I, of course did the hills circuit……yeah right.  I did the 15km river ride.  The leaders or the peloton (as I was referring them) kept up a pretty decent pace and once I manage to weave my way past the slowbies and all the kids, I wasn’t too far behind them.  It’s a really pretty ride on shared paths the majority of the way, only having to go onto a backstreet for a short distance and we managed it in an hour.  Maybe next year I’ll try the 40kms.

The 3 Day Event is an International Horse riding event that is held in Adelaide and consists of dressage, cross country and show jumping, funnily enough over 3 days.  Dad and I went many years ago and decided we’d go again but he got food poisoning (the things he’ll do to avoid being seen out with me, seriously, he could have just said).  I went to the cross country on my own but it was good all the same , lots of walking….it’s a 6.5km course and it was a beautiful day to be out in the parklands.  I’m sure I’ve never been to some of those areas of Rymill Park.  Sunday was the show jumping which I’d never seen ‘live’ before and it was really interesting and my cousin joined me for the afternoon session.  Besides the small talk at family functions, I’ve never spent much time with Robin so it was really nice to chat and watch the horses.

And just to mix things up a bit I’ve been doing an online course ‘Creating A Life You Love, Intuitively’ which has been very thought provoking and getting back in touch with my intuitiveness, which has been lacking a lot in the past few years, lots of introspection which as this time of year is a good thing.

I’m still having flute lessons and have been hitting the Christmas Carols….I’m sure the neighbours can’t wait for Christmas to be over.  The Screech lessons (that’s the violin, in case you were wondering) finish in a few weeks and it all sounds much better in class than it does at home.

Work is plodding along and I’m starting to get the hang of what I’m meant to be doing.  It’s more document management (as opposed to document control) and involves large amounts of paper shuffling both physical and virtual.

Well, here’s to the silly season and I hope yours is going well.  Catch you in a few weeks.  And if I don’t see or speak to you before then, have a fabulous Christmas and New Year.  Stay happy and keep smiling.
